Central Florida Man Dies in Accident After Carjacking

A 28-year-old man died in a car crash in Altamonte Springs while being chased by police. According to news reports, the man carjacked a pizza delivery truck in Sanford and sped away. Four police officers pursued the vehicle onto Interstate 4, where the driver eventually exited the highway, sideswiped another vehicle and ran into a tree. He was taken to Orlando Regional Hospital where he died from his injuries.

The type of reckless driving that killed the alleged carjacker in his attempt to evade police also claims thousands of lives of all types of people every year. Reckless driving is illegal and puts the lives of everyone on the road in danger.

Although speeding alone is not always considered reckless, drivers may receive citations for reckless driving if they are traveling at especially high speeds and speeding in poor weather conditions. Officers will consider, for instance, the time of day, the presence of pedestrians, traffic conditions, visibility and the surface of the roadway. If one or more of these factors leads officers to believe the driver’s speed was unusually dangerous, they may issue a ticket.

Other signs of reckless driving include swerving or passing illegally, especially if other motorists need to change their speed or swerve to the side of the road to avoid the reckless driver. Motorists who aggressively ignore traffic laws and pass other vehicles in a dangerous manner jeopardize the safety of everyone on the road and increase the likelihood of an auto accident.

If you or someone you know has been injured as the result of another person’s reckless driving, consult a Citrus County car accident lawyer to explore your options for pursuing compensation.
